You Could Soon be Disenfranchised over Fire Service
Do you care? Then let your voice be heard!
Green Valley Fire supporters: we’re nearing the end of the line and we need your help…
As you know, Green Valley Fire has worked diligently for a year to get a majority of your signatures in order to annex northern Sahuarita into our boundaries. We succeeded and earned approval from the Pima County Board of Supervisors, whose staff carefully reviewed the petitions and recommended approval.
After losing the battle for public support, Rural Metro and Sharpe & Associates then sued to use their big corporate money to try to overturn what you said you wanted.
Their basis for lawsuit? Minor technicalities like whether or not the word “volunteer” was in all capitals on the petitions.
Unfortunately, the judge sided with them and sent it back to the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
So what’s a big corporation to do next? Use their high-paid lobbyists and lawyers to spread inaccuracies and get the Board of Supervisors to change their votes, despite the fact that Pima County staff recommended approval (for a second time).
Last week the Board voted and there was a tie vote because Supervisor Sharon Bronson (who represents some of you) changed her vote. Per Pima County rules, there is a re-vote on Monday, August 15.
Please help!
This takes us to where we’re at now. Bottom of the 9th. End of the 4th quarter. Who is going to win? The big corporate out of towners or your local fire department who received the majority of the signatures? You decide. If you care, then tell Supervisor Sharon Bronson to change her vote back and listen to the people she represents.
Her office number and email is: (520) 740-8051
